From the initial entry in which i had created i have made a large amount of progress in terms of my pre and post production work which i had begun last week in terms of documentary safety factors and elements put in place to reduce the amount of risk. Within this week of pre and post production work i have managed to finally complete the risk assessment in which i had begun last week adding a larger range of additional risks and elements which may occur during the filming element of my production as well as the elements put in place in order to reduce the likelihood of them occurring and happening during filming within the locations. From my previous entry i had managed to gain further interviews for my documentary in the form of a head of year of a sixth form in order to gain perspective of what the youth do for themselves to gain employment in terms of the courses they choose and the increase in the numbers of those students who choose to stay on for additional education as apposed to leaving school in order to add another element and side to the documentary to show no bias but an equal balance of both the side of the government and the youths attempt in helping reduce the amount of youth unemployment. within this I ensured that I had gained a wide range of shots and cutaway pans of the locations in which we are filming in written down within the pre production paper work. I am looking to gain another interview with an individual during the next following week as well as this I am to gain a range of vox pops from members of the public which may relate to my topic in terms of their age and status.

Production log week one
Production
log week one
This week in terms of production and any form of work is my first initial week in gaining and beginning pre production work for the documentary, within this week i myself have aimed to have completed and have completed a range of tasks which have thus allowed me to move forward further in terms of any pre production and post production work in terms of the filming element. Within this first initial week i have managed to complete the risk assessment sheet for the filming and the locations of which I am going to be filming near or within and have worked in order to minimize the amount of risk which may be caused within the different situations, i have input elements and forms of prevention's on top of the risks in order to reduce the likelihood of them occurring when out filming in the public. to ensure maximum safety and reductions of risk. Along side this during the week i have also worked on and finished the crew list in which I am constructing in order to use for my production documentary, with regards to filming this week I had managed to gain my first initial interview with that of the manager of Adecco in terms of what they do as a business and organisaiton in order to prevent and reduce the factor of youth unemployment, within this form of filming i made sure that i obtained a large amount of either pan away shots of the location as well as cut away pans of the location in which i will be filming in, in this case i would mostly be filming within the Adecco business premises within the office of Viddy the manager of the business at the time of filming. This has allowed me to progress within the process of creating my documentary for my project.Thursday, 21 January 2016

FINAL PROPOSAL blog
Aims:
The aim of my documentary is to clearly show both sides of youth unemployment, how it has changed and what is being done to combat the problem. I will be conducting interviews with various experts and individuals and will aim to give my full knowledge of the subject whilst maintaining impartial with the subject ensuring my bias and opinion does not affect the factual nature of the documentary.
Content:
Within my documentary the content will include a large amount of factual information regarding the subject whilst also having a range of opinions from both ends of the spectrum with the subject I will be documenting. I will be looking to gain interviews from a range of resources, an interview with the job center (a company aimed at helping and getting people into work who have been unemployed) a recruitment agency as well as a school head teacher for the perspective of who is to blame for the increase in youth unemployment. At the end of the documentary I will sum up everything which I have learnt and will provide a small segment of how to make themselves more employable as a final summary.
Target audience:
The desired target audience is both males and females within the 16-24 year old age category, appealing to every ethnicity being as it is a subject which can be interpreted by everyone. Although my topic is quite mainstream I will make the documentary mostly educational allowing the audience to learn more about the current state of unemployment and what is being done from both perspectives, as it is a informative educational topic I will ensure that I maintain impartial throughout allowing for a fair perspective of both sides allowing the audience to draw their own conclusions.
Format:
The format which I will be using throughout my documentary will be performative, ensuring that I have a visible presenter throughout, the cameras will be following the presenter on the journey. As well as this I will be incorporating a small amount of expository throughout for example when explaining the increase in the rate of youth unemployment in the introduction as well as at the end when I will be summarizing with a range of background images. Having this presenter will give the documentary more validity as the camera is following the presenter directly as opposed to having a documentary based on shots done by a third party.
Genre:
The genre which I will be using will be that of a documentary with the nature and intent of being both factual and engaging for the audience. I will ensure that the layout and structure of my filming will resemble and remain that of a factual and informative documentary with a range of interviews, opinions, images and videos from third party sources all the information will be straight to the point to keep the feel of a documentary. The expert knowledge will enhance the educationmal and informative edge whilst also providing interesting information for example tips on how to gain employment, how to make yourselves more employable and how you can stand out from the crowd within interviews for jobs and careers.
Style:
Within my documentary there will be a range of different styles with a range of locations which are necessary and required without overwhelming the audience. Within my documentary I will be using a range of interviews and potentially a small amount of vox pops from the public which the information would appeal to. In order to portray the factual nature of the documentary I will be using images, facts and third party footage in the back of my documentary as I speak over the top in order to provide a range of explanations and facts to, although a large majority of the documentary will contain me talking to the camera as a presenter, whilst having a large amount of third party footage over the back to enhance the information in which I am giving as it can help act as an visual aid for the audience watching. This will help to enhance the main aim of my documentary of being an informative factual type whilst also keeping it entertaining and grabbing in order to maintain the audiences attention as a whole.

Analysing the competition
video one: Educating Cardiff,
channel four,
9:00pm
1.5 million viewing figure
Tuesday
video two: The boy who wants his leg cut off,
BBC 3
9:00pm
790,000 viewing figure
Monday
Video three: How to get a council house
channel four,
10:00pm
840,000 viewing figure
Tuesday
The title of my first show in which i will be analyzing is "Educating Cardiff" this is a factual TV show which follows a school within Cardiff on a daily basis to show their lives and the schools methods in teaching, following the success of the school. This show was aired on "channel four" at 9:00pm on a Tuesday gaining a viewing figure of 1.5 million individuals for one episode on that particular day. The similarities with this show and my documentary is shown with the nature of the show, the nature of the show is about education and teaching the youth in order to leave qualified enough to gain employment. This links into my documentary as my documentary is on the topic of youth unemployment and whether or not the youth are doing enough to become qualified in an industry in order to gain employment, although this is only a minor similarity it is enough to become competition for the show, in order to avoid clashing with this particular documentary I will air the documentary at a time which is more prime time whereby the audience figure is at its highest on a show which has a high viewing figure for example BBC one just after a large soap for example Eastenders whereby the viewing figure is high, the viewing figure on BBC one is substantially higher than that of channel four thus allowing me to gain a higher viewing figure in terms of competitiveness allowing me to successfully gain a larger viewing figure than that of Educating Cardiff.
The title of my second show which i will be analysing is "The boy who wants his leg cut off" this is a factual documentary following the life of a individual and their story and journey with a particular issue or problem in their life. This particular show was aired on "BBC 3" at "9:00pm" on a Monday evening gaining a large viewing figure of 790,000 members of the public for this one particular documentary created. The similarities with this particular documentary and my documentary is with the particular presence of the show in terms of having the nature of explaining why the individual wants his leg cut off, this is similar to my documentary in terms of the nature of my documentary being used to explain to the audience why the rate of youth unemployment has increased and how it has affected a certain demographic of audience in this case the youth in which it affects. Having this similarity will allow for my documentary to gain a form of competition for this documentary and will allow for it to gain a substantial amount of viewing figures against the rival documentary, as well as this the viewing figure in which the subject reaches is a mass audience as a large amount of people within the youth demographic will seek interest in this in hope of gaining information and tips on how to improve the likelihood of becoming employed, the relate able context will act as competitive edge for my documentary allowing me to gain a higher amount of viewing figures to that of my rival documentary.
The third documentary in which I will be analyzing will be "how to get a council house" this is a factual and informative documentary which follows the presenter and the methods taken in order for an individual to gain housing from the council. The documentary aims to provide supportive and informative information in terms of gaining housing and sets out with the main objective of educating the audience whilst providing a certain degree of interest. This particular show was aired on "Channel four" at 10:00pm on a Tuesday evening gaining a viewing figure of 840,000 of the general public on that one particular evening. The similarities with this documentary and my documentary lay within the intent of the documentary with its main aim as a source of information, this documentary aims to "Show the audience how to gain a certain thing" this is similar to the intent of my documentary in terms of wanting to educate the audience on "how to gain employment and better increase their chances of becoming employed over other candidates" This similarity although small is enough to draw competitiveness from and allows my documentary to have a edge over competitor documentaries, in order to ensure maximum amounts of audience viewers to gain the highest competitiveness I will be airing my documentary on a different channel to "channel four" whereby the audience figure is higher for example ITV and or BBC one where the audience figure is high as well as this I will ensure to air it at a earlier more prime time around 8:00pm when the when everyone comes home from work ensuring the highest amount of viewing figures due to the higher amount of people who are up watching, this is more efficient than airing it at 10:00pm when the amount of people watching decreases substantially. This will allow my documentary to have a competitive edge over the other documentary allowing me to beat their viewing figures.
